As David Pransky, bassist for Toubab Krewe and founder of the festival puts it, "Manifestivus is proof that an epic event can happen in the backwoods of Vermont. We join the best of Vermont with the best of world music and culture to create an unforgettable weekend."
The Manifestivus is an uplifting international world music festival that promotes personal evolution through music, art and culture. The festival reminds us that we are one with each other, the land and all things.
In 2009, National Geographic.com's article The Best Of This Year's Summer Festivals acclaimed “[The Manifestivus] manages to punch above its weight by attracting top international talent."
Past performers have included: Common, Barrington Levy, John Brown’s Body, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars, Oumou Sangaré, Midnite and Black Sheep.
The family-friendly event offers on-site camping, medical facilities, vendors of authentic African and Ital food, as well as local arts and crafts. Yoga and West African dancing and drumming workshops round out the cultural experience. The site also boasts hiking trails, which wind through beaver ponds, marsh and woodland forest, and a large swimming pond. The 200+ children that attend the festival have an entire supervised area devoted to fun, games and culture.
Manifestivus was started in 2002 and is held on 93 acres of breathtaking land in Cabot, Vermont, six hours north of New York City and three hours from Boston or Montreal. Set on a gently rolling hillside meadow surrounded by forest, the timber stage creates an unforgettable vibe. "Festivus," as it's been dubbed, was founded by Toubab Krewe bassist David Pransky and takes place on his family’s land. The Manifestivus is also managed by Carlo Rovetto of Positive Pie.
The Manifestivus will donate a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales to Toubab Krewe's School House Krewe Project, which is raising funds for the construction of a music school in Bamako, Mali. www.instruments4africa.org
Tickets at the Gate will cost $75. Tickets will no longer be available online starting 7/21.
